Eczema is a skin disease is characterized by the spots in the body that is  redness, inflammation and itching. It is very pain full and irritable and makes people life very hard. People suffering from eczema exhibit their skin dry and cracked in any part of the body. Generally its symptom is seen in arms and on the backside of the knees. Eczema is a chronic disease and occurs in infants too. It is common in them however with time in most cases the symptoms disappear before they enter to adult hood. If your skin itches and turns red from time to time, you might have eczema


There is various cause of Eczema such as hereditary- disease that is conceded from generation to generation. The symptoms are either due to sensitive skin or a poor functioning of the immune system. If there is a defect in the skin barrier, moisture may escape from the body, and germs find an easy entry in. Though, the exact cause of eczema is not known. Research specifies that the disease is triggered via stress, heat, sweat, cold temperatures, dry environment and dry skin.

Types of eczema

You may have eczema when your skin itches and turns red occasionally. It is very common condition in children however adults could also have this too. Eczema are also called atopic dermatitis. Atopic refers to an allergy. Mostly people suffering from eczema generally have allergies or asthma along with itchy, red skin. The form of eczema varies from person to person and it has its own set of symptoms and triggers. So the people will exhibit following symptoms in their skin and will have dry, scaly skin, redness and itching.


  1. A topic dermatitis

One of the most common types of eczema is A topic dermatitis.  This type of eczema starts in childhood till the milder however goes away by adulthood. Atopic dermatitis also called atopic triad.  Where, Triad means three. Diseases like asthma and hay fever is associated with this and so it is called atopic triad. Generally people with atopic dermatitis may have all three situations. The causes of Atopic dermatitis are: genes, dry skin, an immune system problem and triggers in the atmosphere.

Symptoms of Atopic dermatitis

  • rash in the creases of elbows or knees
  • the rash appears portion may turn lighter or darker, or get thicker
  • small bumps may appear and leak fluid if scratch in them
  • babies frequently get the rash on their scalp and cheeks
  • skin can get infected if scratch it
  1. Contact dermatitis

In some cases people get reaction by touching or when comes in contact with some substances. People with this reaction have irritated skin.  This is called as contact dermatitis.  So in contact dermatitis the skin get red, burns and string, hives may pop up on the skin, fluid-filled swellings can form that may discharge and crust over and  the skin may thicken and feel flaking or stringy. The common cause of Contact dermatitis are detergents,  bleach, jewelry, latex, nickel, paint,    poison ivy and poisonous plants, skin care products, soaps and perfumes, solvents, tobacco smoke

  1. Dyshidrotic eczema

This type of eczema is common in women than men.  In dyshidrotic small blisters are form on the hand and feet. The symptoms of Dyshidrotic eczema are  fluid-filled blisters on fingers, toes, palms, and soles of the feet, the  blisters could be  itch or hurt and the skin may be scaled, crack. Dyshidrotic eczema is allergies are mostly due to moist hands and feet, contact to things such as nickel, cobalt, or chromium salt and stresses

  1. Hand eczema

People whose profession is   hairdressing or cleaning may get hand eczema because in this work people have to play regularly with chemicals which irritate the skin. The symptom of this is that the hands get red, itchy, and dry and they may form cracks or blisters. Hand eczema is generated by exposure to chemicals. People who work in this kind of job gets hand eczema since they have to do cleaning, hairdressing, healthcare and laundry

  1. Neuro dermatitis

Neuro dermatitis is alike to atopic dermatitis. It causes thick, scaly patches to pop up on the skin. The symptom of this is that it exhibit thick, scaly patches form on the arms, legs, back of the neck, scalp, bottoms of the feet, backs of your hands and are  genitals. The patches is very itchy, particularly when people are in  relaxed or asleep state and with the scratch the patches bleeds and get infected. People having other kinds of eczema usually get this type of eczema.  The cause of this is unknown but it is assumed that stress could be the reason.

  1. Nummular eczema

In this type of eczema round, coin-shaped spots form on the skin.  It forms due to the reaction to an insect bite or an allergy to certain metals and chemicals.

    1. Stasis dermatitis

Stasis dermatitis occur due to the fluid leaks from the weakened veins into the skin. It  exibit swelling, redness, itching, and pain. One should understand he or she have this type of eczema when he or she’s lower part of the legs have swell up, especially during walking. Here the leg may have ache or feel heavy. The stasis dermatitis cause is the problem of blood flow in the lower legs.


The symptoms of eczema are itch and rash on the skin. In this situation the skin become dry and thicken in the neck, face, hands and legs. In case of children the symptoms also look like on the knees and in the inner sides of the elbows.  The most common symptoms of eczema are Itch Redness Thickening and Blisters


Bacterial skin infections

Atopic eczema cause the skin to become cracked and broken. So there is a chance to get infection with bacteria. So to prevent from getting infection the pasent must do their treatment. bacterial sign of infection include:  oozing  of fluid from the skin, yellow crust on the skin surface and small yellowish-white spots seeming in the eczema ,the skin fetching enlarged and sore and  a high fever and generally feeling unwell

Viral skin infections

Eczema could infected by the herpes simplex virus. it causes cold sores. This can become serious that is eczema herpetic. The symptom of eczema herpetic is  painful eczema that quickly get worse, fluid-filled blisters which  break open and leave small, shallow open sores on the skin  and high temperature and generally feeling unwell some times.

Psychological effects

Physically and atopic eczema might also affect psychologically. There could be behavioral problems in those children who have atopic eczema and the consequence may be that the children might be more dependent on their parents. Children with atopic eczema experience teasing or bullying. In this case parents have to take due attention to their child. There could be sleeping and Self-confidence problem to those having eczema.  So a child lacking in confidence will difficult in developing their social skill. In this case social Support and encouragement is very important to boost child’s self-confidence.
