In recent time in the field of Alzheimer’s disease testing, Cardiff University has developed an important simple blood test to predict the Alzheimer’s disease.
A group of academics of university of Cardiff, King’s College of London and Oxford University made research in 292 people. Blood of 292 people collected and did research with the earliest signs of memory deficiency and observed a set of biomarkers (indicators of disease) that predicted whether or not a given person would develop Alzheimer’s disease.
According to Paul Morgan, (Director, Cardiff University’s Systems Immunity Research Institute) stated that “it is possible to predict whether or not a person with mild memory problems is most likely to progress Alzheimer’s disease over the next few years. They hope to develop on this, a simple blood test that can predict the possibility of developing Alzheimer’s disease in older people having mild and possibly innocent memory loss.
The study acquired blood samples from persons offering with very common symptoms of memory loss and measured a great number of proteins belonging to a part of the resistant system which is known to drive inflammation and has formerly been occupied in brain diseases.
When the persons were re-assessed after one year it was found that around a quarter had progressed to Alzheimer’s disease whereas three of the proteins measured in their blood showed substantial differences from the blood of members that did not go on to develop the disease.
Professor Morgan added: “Alzheimer’s disease affects around 520,000 individuals in the UK and this number is continually growing as the population ages.
